IPS e.max crowns, veneers and inlays

Lithium disilicate restorations for anterior cases where translucency and shade match matter most. Patients can visit the lab for custom shading.

What it is

IPS e.max is a lithium disilicate glass ceramic. It is pressed or milled, then characterized by hand. Its translucency reads more like natural enamel than zirconia does, which makes it our first choice for anterior aesthetics.

For difficult shades, send the patient to our Mount Kisco lab. Our ceramist matches the shade in person under controlled lighting, which beats working from photos alone.

When to prescribe it

  • Anterior crowns and veneers
  • Inlays and onlays
  • Single central incisors, where the match must be exact
  • Cases with a conservative prep
  • Patients who object to any metal

Questions dentists ask

Choose e.max when esthetics, translucency, and natural shade matching are the priority—especially for anterior crowns, veneers, inlays, and onlays. Zirconia is generally preferred when greater strength is required or when treating high-load posterior areas and longer-span restorations.

Contact our laboratory directly or submit the patient information through the contact page. We will coordinate a convenient shade appointment with your office and patient.

Please provide clear photos with a shade tab positioned beside the tooth. Ideally include a straight-on view, a 45-degree view, and a stump-shade photo after preparation. Photos should be taken without filters and under neutral or natural lighting.

Yes, in selected cases. e.max can be used for implant-supported restorations, commonly as a lithium-disilicate crown bonded to a compatible titanium base. Case selection depends on implant position, available restorative space, occlusion, and functional load.
